Assistant Accountant (On Contract)

We are hiring an Assistant Accountant to help us with the workload involved in managing our day-to-day accounting and finance support needs.

Position: Assistant Accountant

Effective Date: January  6th, 2025

Supervisor: Senior Accountant   

Duration: 1 year

Hours of work per week: 40

Work hours: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Lunch Break: 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

 

Job Summary:

The Assistant Accountant will be responsible for ensuring the timely preparation and remittance of payments, accurate recording of financial transactions, preparing financial reports, and supporting the Senior Accountant in budgeting, audits, and other financial management tasks. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of accounting principles and practices. The responsibilities listed below will be expected to be carried out in the spirit of The Navigators’ calling, values and purpose.  

Accounting Duties and Responsibilities

  • Check and verify presented invoices, authorization forms and payment requests.
  • Facilitate payments – involves an invoice, payment authorization, a payment voucher. 
  • Post local transactions
  • Manage payroll-related payments and Monthly statutory returns.
  • Ensure all filing is done in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Provide monthly financial reports for designated projects.
  • Document arrangement and verification in and through the External audit process.
  • Coordinate with Admin to ensure that all payments are sent out efficiently.
  • Manage the Homeownership bookkeeping and system. 
  • Carry out Banking and Petty Cash tasks as assigned.
  • Bring all financial and Homeownership reports to a professional standard.
  • Develop automated reports and receipting using QuickBooks Online.
  • Assist in projects as assigned by management.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Kenya Level 2 or ACCA (Applied skills).
  • 2-3 years of progressive experience in accounting roles.
  • Solid understanding of accounting standards and accounting-related compliance.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop and Online and MS Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Remuneration:

The remuneration package will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.  (Range: Kes. 50,000 -Kes. 55,000 Gross)
